My residence permit application was denied. What now?
It is not the end of the world! Depending on your situation, it is possible to challenge the decision through an administrative or judicial appeal. We have a high success rate in challenging unfavorable decisions from AIMA. Contact us so we can analyze your case and identify the best options.
AIMA isn’t responding or scheduling my appointment. What can I do?
When a delay is unjustified, the law provides ways to compel the administration to act, such as filing an urgent application with the administrative court. Each case depends on the documents and what has already been requested, so it’s best to review your case during a consultation.
What documents do I need to apply for a residence permit?
It depends on the type of permit. Generally, you’ll need valid identification, proof of address, a tax identification number (NIF), proof of means of subsistence and a criminal record certificate. During the consultation, I’ll provide a list tailored to your case.
Can I bring my family to Portugal?
In many cases, yes, through family reunification, which covers, for example, spouses and children. The requirements vary depending on your residence permit, accommodation and income.
When can I apply for Portuguese citizenship?
It depends on your situation, including how long you’ve been legally resident, your ties to Portugal or your family connection to a Portuguese citizen. The rules have changed in recent years, so it’s best to check how the current rules apply before proceeding.
